In the 1990s, Shelly Walton built up a strong following in Cape Coral. Popular bars back then were Champs, Tiki Bar, Mugs n Jugs, Seawitch and Cruiser’s Lounge.
In 1995, Shelly opted to work for more than just tips, vying to make a job for herself where she could be her own boss. Her concept was simple: to open a spot where locals could eat, enjoy drinks, watch sports and be entertained. In December of ’95, The Upper Deck opened its doors as a full liquor bar that housed a full kitchen. The place offered daily specials, and featured darts, pool and live music. The place was smaller than it is today, but it stayed plenty busy.
For several years, Shelly worked both as the owner/manager and a full-time bartender.
In 1998, the name was changed to BackStreets Sports Bar, and business continued to grow. The outside bar and patio was added in 2007, adding a new dimension.
Since 1995, BackStreets has stayed true to its original roots. The bar offers great service, popular specials, and a stellar staff to take care of awesome customers.
We could go on and on, really, this article sums things up:
